Join artist, author and garden expert Lorene Edwards Forkner for a morning of inspiration, observation, and painting with watercolors in the gardens at Ground! No prior art experience necessary.

Color is about seduction. It is both a delightful gift and one of nature’s most sophisticated tools to capture the attention of all living creatures. In this workshop, Lorene will talk about color, it’s role in a pleasing landscape, and how her daily practice, which she posts on Instagram, has introduced an expansiveness to the way she views the world.

Following this brief introduction, participants will create a nature-based color study using watercolors to record colors found in fragments of the natural world: a tiny blossom, a leaf, or a twig. This is not botanical illustration, but as an exercise in learning to see with fresh eyes and an opportunity to slow down, focus, and savor the season.

Each person will receive a copy of Lorene's book, Color in and Out of the Garden plus all the materials to create their own watercolor observations including:
  • Instructional handout
  • Watercolor dot card of 7 sample hues
  • Craft brush
  • 6” x 6” watercolor paper for finished color study
  • Additional test strips of watercolor paper
  • An original 4” x 4” color study painting and test swatches by Lorene
