These layered, textural paintings and collages are created out of an intuitive process. Christine Kelly often chooses a palette first and then begins with a single stroke. She creates and destroys as she goes, leaving behind remnants of each layer as she builds the paintings.
Her intent is for viewers to discover what is there, but to continue to see new things the longer they look at her paintings. Kelly believes her work is about emotion and that the viewer is free to feel and to see what they want, even if she didn’t intend it.
About the artist: Christine Kelly is a San Francisco Bay Area painter. She grew up in an artistic environment, living in San Francisco with her grandfather, who was a painter and illustrator. After studying interior design she established her own business, Kelly-Kirby Designs, in San Francisco. Her design experience, including her love of pattern, fabric, and texture, can be seen in her work, where collage has become an increasingly important element.
