Annie Bilder is a self taught artist, who discovered her artistic talent when she moved to Tiburon in her mid forties. Here she felt compelled to try to capture the beauty that surrounded her, almost as an act of gratitude for the privilege of living here.
She found working with a diverse array of materials to be a deeply satisfying, very personal form of meditation, with color, always color, driving her. Early on she decided not to take lessons of any sort. Creating art was too personal. She was afraid to be bound by rules.
In early 2020, while visiting an art collector friend on the East coast, she was captivated by some pipes covered with various fibers that were hanging above her friend’s sofa. She felt compelled to try out this novel art form. The results are on display in this show.
