One of the rarest types of carpet art in Kyrgyzstan is Shyrdak. Modern artisans for years honing their skills and making shyrdak with their own hands take pride in using only natural materials. Each pattern in the shyrdak has hidden meanings that relate to the history and everyday life of people, clearly and vividly reflecting their unity with nature.
To preserve this ancient tradition, ala-kiyiz and shyrdak in 2012 were included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List as an endangered form of ancient Kyrgyz art.
